All About My Work


My Technique...

I get right to it. Picking up a hunk of clay, I quietly bless it, and away I go. I never draw my subjects, and I never work with photos (except when doing a true likeness, ie. Commissions). My subjects come to me in my creative consciousness. I "see" them, and get to know them as the process continues. Rather than looking at a model, I look inward at the image in my mind. I then combine anatomy with the persona I have come to know, and then decide on position, style, body language, and attitude. I feel very blessed for I seem to never lack for ideas of "people" I want to bring to life. My firm belief is that unless art is created in pure form, from the mind of the artist, rather than from photos or the ideas of others, it will lack real meaning and will reflect production rather than creativity.
The joy is in expressing my original ideas. This is my "gift." My messages, however simple or complex are cross-cultural. Therefore, I strive to achieve a physical countenance in many of my subjects that could be of any heritage. In considering my subjects, I would hope the viewer sees my work, not as a "decorator piece" but, as a presence in their home, bringing them peace and an awareness that all people of all cultures are truly "one" united through creation and bonded by spirit. My original subjects are molded and cast in the finest quality materials by professional artisans.

My Studio/Surroundings...

I'm content in my studio, with an element of clay, tools, clutter, and a heart full of ideas, each screaming, "let ME out next! Do ME! Do ME! With whichever image wins out, I try to clarify the common denominator that connects people to the earth, and to one another. That denominator is found in a deep, spiritual level, where our hearts live. It is there that I strive to reach people with my art. My work becomes a spiritual experience as it brings me peace and helps me stay grounded during times of discontent.
